Mackenzie County is currently inviting applications for an Administrative Assistant – seasonal position. Generally, the term of this position will be from May – September. The position will be in both Fort Vermilion and in La Crete, however, the individual may be required to work in other areas of the municipality as per operational requirements. This is a seasonal unionized position with a 40 hour work week (8 hours per day) Monday to Friday.
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Research, analyze, and build reports on high level items ie: Strategic Plan, Business Plan, and Sustainability Plan;
- Review goals and plans to ensure they are current. Ensuring media and web presence align with these items;
- Review current bylaws and policies and make recommendation for change;
- Collaborate with senior management on research projects;
- Assist with organizing County related events, including staff functions;
- Assist in the preparation of correspondence, reports, etc.;
- Other duties as required.
Requirements for this position are:
- Enrolled in or intending to enroll in a degree in Business Administration or Political Science;
- Familiarity with various provincial legislation with focus on the Municipal Government Act and the Access to Information Act;
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher);
- Committed to a high level of confidentiality and political decorum;
- Must be a self-starter and motivated to complete projects and tasks with minimal supervision, keen observation and reflection skills;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including formal letter writing;
- Exceptional attention to detail;
- Ability to conduct presentations and take minutes;
- Valid class 5 drivers’ licence;

- Front counter coverage and customer service;
- Responding to inquiries and/or complaints in a professional and tactful manner;
- Refer telephone calls and distribution of internal and external County related mail to the appropriate departments;
- Verifying accuracy of daily bank deposits;
- Conducting and verifying that accurate receipts are completed for payments;
- Recording of receipts in General Ledger;
- Completion of water and sewer connection and disconnection forms;
- Post daily batches and file all documents in a timely manner;
- Ensure photocopiers, fax machines, and printers are stocked with paper;
- May be required to assist in other related areas/offices;
- Other duties as required.

Mackenzie County is currently inviting applications for an Equipment Operator position. The primary location for this position will be in La Crete, however the individual may be required to work in other areas of the municipality as per operational requirements. This is a full-time unionized position with a 40 hour work week (8 hours per day) Monday to Friday.
Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor (South), the successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Manual labour (i.e. shoveling snow/dirt);
- Maintenance and repair of signs, culverts, etc.;
- Snow removal, manual and equipment;
- The safe operation and minor maintenance of County equipment;
- Assisting with crack-filling; pavement patching;
- Some weekend or holiday work required; (Saturday & Sunday)
- Other duties as required.
Requirements for this position are:
- Valid Class 5 drivers’ license; Class 1 or 3 an asset;
- Two to three years’ experience operating equipment (i.e. loader, backhoe, tractor, skid steer, & lawn mower);
- Moderate physical strength and stamina;
- Mechanical knowledge of equipment would be an asset;
- Knowledge of road maintenance;
- Adequate verbal and written communication skills;
- Evidence of successfully passing a police Criminal Record Check.

These are seasonal unionized positions with a 40 hour work week (8 hours per day) Monday to Friday.
Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor (South), the successful applicants will be responsible for:

- Responsible for safe loading and moving of equipment;

Mackenzie County is currently inviting applications for Casual Equipment Operators. The primary locations for these positions will be in Fort Vermilion and La Crete, however the individuals may be required to work in other areas of the municipality as per operational requirements. These are unionized positions and the hours of work are on an as needed basis.
Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor (Fort Vermilion & La Crete), the successful applicants will be responsible for:
- Operate heavy equipment (grader) in a safe and appropriate manner and maintain proper awareness of one’s surroundings while operating grader on public roadways.
- Maneuver equipment with attached blades in successive movements across work areas in order to move rocks, vegetation or topsoil and to spread and level terrain.
- Checks grader daily to maintain efficient and safe operational status: Greasing, oil changes, routine equipment maintenance, and grader blade changes.
- Operate equipment in a manner that will not result in undue or unnecessary equipment breakdown, is capable of scraping roads in an efficient manner, blading roads to proper crown, and efficiently filling in the rough sections of roads.
- Maintenance and repair of signs, culverts, etc.;
- Assisting with crack-filling; pavement patching;
- Some weekend or holiday work may be required (Saturday & Sunday);
- Other duties as required.
Requirements for these positions are:
- Valid class 5 drivers’ license; class 1 or 3 an asset;

Wages: $33.47/hr. – $41.36/hr. As per the Collective Agreement, vacation pay will be calculated based on six percent (6%) of your earnings.

These are seasonal unionized positions with a 40 hour work week (8 hours per day) Monday to Friday.
Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor (La Crete or Fort Vermilion), the successful applicants will be responsible for:
- Manual labour;
- Maintenance of Mackenzie County grounds including grass cutting, weed control, watering, and landscaping;
- Cleaning and maintenance of parks and public spaces including garbage pickup and cleaning of park restrooms;
- Safely using small power tools, mowers and trimmers as directed;
- Responsible for the safe loading and moving of municipal equipment as required;
- Pothole patching and traffic control;
- Complete daily maintenance checks on equipment and clean equipment as required;

Reporting to the Director of Utilities, the successful applicants will be responsible for:
- Manual labour;
- Assist with maintenance and operation of water and sewer facilities;
- Manhole, hydrant and valve maintenance;
- Perform connections and disconnections to water services;
- Equipment maintenance and repairs;
- Investigate, read and repair water meters on a monthly basis;
- Other duties as required.
