Mackenzie County is currently inviting applications for a Finance Clerk position. The location for this position will be in Fort Vermilion. This is a full-time unionized position with a 40 hour work week (8 hours per day) Monday to Friday.

Reporting to the Finance Controller, the successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Preparing internal operating and capital budget reports for operating departments;
  • Reconciling bank accounts, including investment and credit card accounts;
  • Monitor the chequing account balance and outstanding cheque balances;
  • Prepare and submit investment fund transfer request to the Director of Finance;
  • Collect and review recoding requests from all departments, and submit to the Finance Controller for approval;
  • Regularly enter invoices and other project data in the project costing spreadsheet and regularly reconcile it to the general ledger. Verify all documentation required as received;
  • Prepare the year-end audit leadsheet for bank and investments;
  • Collect and maintain asset addition and disposal files in Diamond;
  • Assist in preparation of the project reports to granting agencies as required;
  • Prepare GST return quarterly for review and submission by the Finance Controller.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements for this position are:

  • Post-Secondary education in Business Administration or Accounting is an asset;
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in accounting or finance field;
  • Municipal and/or government accounting experience is an asset;
  • Working knowledge of Great Plains Dynamics software is an asset;
  • Attention to detail, strong numeracy skills & a high level of accuracy is essential;
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs;
  • Effective interpersonal, time management and organizational skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities under tight deadlines;
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license;
  • Evidence of successfully passing a police Criminal Record Check;

Salary Range: $83,616 – $100,339 per annum. Mackenzie County offers a Comprehensive Benefit Package.

  • Prepare and distribute arrears notices on a monthly basis;
  • Complete trial balance reconciliations;
  • Provide year-end reconciliations & review year-end submissions for inventory counts;
  • Prepare and submit reports as required;
  • Collect, process and maintain grant applications for non-profit groups;
  • Prepare and maintain reconciliations of payments to local recreation boards;
  • Prepare and maintain bursary applications and files;
  • Assist the Utility Clerk with monthly billing, reconciliations and other duties as required;
  • Assist with the maintenance and tracking of fuel card database;
  • Maintain spreadsheets for reconciliation and analysis purposes;
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements for this position are:

  • Business administration diploma or combination of equivalent training and experience;
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs;
  • Effective problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to deal with customers tactfully and effectively;
  • Attention to detail, strong numeracy skills and a high level of accuracy is essential;

Mackenzie County is currently inviting applications for a Casual General Maintenance Laborer – Custodian position. The primary location for this position will be in Fort Vermilion. This is a unionized position and the hours of work are on an as-needed basis.

Reporting to the Director of Legislative & Support Services, the successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Providing janitorial services at the buildings that are directly or indirectly administrated by Mackenzie County.
  • Ensuring a high standard and consistent level of cleanliness throughout the facilities;
  • Cleaning of washrooms, offices, meeting rooms & lunchrooms;
  • Waste removal;
  • Floorcare (including vacuuming, wet mopping, etc.);
  • Window cleaning;
  • Bi-annual seasonal cleaning;
  • Reporting damage and major repairs;
  • Comply with security regulations such as ensuring all doors & windows are secured;
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements for this position are:

  • Previous custodial experience;
  • Good verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision within a team environment;
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License;
  • Evidence of successfully passing a Police Criminal Record Check;

Salary Range: $20.25/hr. – $27.53.hr. As per the Collective Agreement, vacation pay will be calculated based on six percent (6%) of your earnings.

Mackenzie County is currently inviting applications for a Casual Equipment Operator I position. The primary location for this position will be in Fort Vermilion. This is a unionized position and the hours of work are on an as-needed basis.

Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor (North), the successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Manual labour (i.e. shoveling snow/dirt);
  • Maintenance and repair of signs, culverts, etc.;
  • Snow removal (manual and equipment);
  • Operate the snow/plow truck or grader as required;
  • The safe operation and minor maintenance of County equipment;
  • Assisting with crack-filling, pavement patching, etc.;
  • Some weekend or holiday work required (Saturday & Sunday);
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements for this position are:

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License; class 1 or 3 and asset;
  • 2 – 3 years experience operating equipment (i.e. loader, skid steer, etc.);
  • Moderate physical strength & stamina;
  • Mechanical knowledge of equipment would be an asset;
  • Knowledge of the Mackenzie County road network;
  • Knowledge of road maintenance;
  • Adequate verbal and written communication skills;
  • Evidence of successfully passing a Police Criminal Record Check;

Salary Range: $27.35/hr. – $34.64/hr. As per the Collective Agreement, vacation pay will be calculated based on six percent (6%) of your earnings.

Mackenzie County is currently inviting applications for a Public Works Supervisor position. The primary location for this position will be in Zama, however, the individual may be required to work in other areas of the municipality as per operational requirements. This is a full-time out-of-scope position with a 40 hour work week (8 hours per day) Monday to Friday.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Manual labor (i.e. shoveling snow/dirt);
  • Maintenance and repair of signs, culverts, bridge washing, etc.;
  • Assisting with crack-filling, pavement patching, etc.;
  • Operate snow/plow truck, grader, lawn mowing equipment, backhoe, misc. equipment as required;
  • Minor grader maintenance including changing blades;
  • Document the maintenance of roads, establish task priorities, and prepare monthly reports to the Director of Operations;
  • Review maintenance procedures regularly;
  • Ensure maintenance and construction projects are completed in a timely manner while meeting the County’s standards and specifications;
  • Assist in the preparation of the roads maintenance budget;
  • Daily supervision of road maintenance staff and contractors;
  • Assist other departments and external organizations as directed by the Director of Operations;
  • Some weekend or holiday work required (Saturday & Sunday);
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements for this position are:

  • 3 – 5 years related experience;
  • Minimum 2 years Supervisor experience;
  • Heavy Equipment Operator experience;
  • Ability to provide supervision to staff and contractors;
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision;
  • Ability to provide effective interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proven organizational and time management skills;
  • A valid class 3 driver’s license;
  • Evidence of successfully passing a Police Criminal Record Check;

Salary Range: $91,402.06 – $102,827.32 per annum. Mackenzie County offers a Comprehensive Benefits Package including isolation pay.

Reporting to Council, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is responsible for providing vision and leadership to members of the senior management team and for the administration and coordination of the delivery of services to the County’s residents and businesses in a manner that will ensure the sustainable utilization of human, financial and physical resources of the County. The CAO implements the objectives, policies and programs approved by Council and in accordance with the Municipal Government Act, the bylaws of the County and all other applicable legislation. Direct reports include:

  • Director of Legislative and Support Services
  • Director of Finance
  • Director of Operations
  • Director of Community Services
  • Director of Utilities
  • Director of Projects and Infrastructure

Council Relationship

  • Maintain a positive and productive relationship with Council based on trust, commitment, and the ongoing willingness for communication.
  • Attend Council and Committee meetings to assist in priority deliberations as they set and maintain the overall strategic vision.
  • Provide Council with all the information they require to make well-informed decisions. Keep Council apprised of issues and developments of an operational, legislative, or political nature that relate to the interests of the County.
  • Work with Council to address matters of importance to the County and assist in setting the vision and direction. Formulate objectives that are effective and realistic to meet the vision and direction of Council and communities.
  • Support Council in determining policy by providing information such as other levels of government objectives, social and economic trends, advice of staff, positions advocated by community groups and local businesses.

Leadership

  • Provide positive leadership, direction, mentorship and coaching to the administrative team, across all County offices / operations. Direct, supervise, and review the performance goals and objectives of the leadership team, direct reports, and employees of the County.
  • Promote and encourage the training and development of skills and professional development to foster health and safety, productivity, succession planning and customer-oriented attitudes. Meet regularly with all levels of staff to be aware of daily operational issues, health, and safety items, staffing concerns and staff feedback they are receiving from County residents.
  • Involve staff in setting and reviewing annual goals and objectives through an organization planning process.
  • Provide practical guidance and timely advice, as required. Ensure that staff issues and concerns are addressed respectfully.
