Mackenzie County is currently inviting applications for an Administrative Assistant position. The primary location for this position will be in Fort Vermilion, however, the individual may be required to work in other areas of the municipality as per operational requirements. This is a full-time unionized position with a 40 hour work week (8 hours per day) Monday to Friday. This is a term position with the possibility of becoming a permanent position.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Scheduling and administrative support to the Director of Finance;
  • Assist with the preparation and distribution of agenda packages;
  • Maintain correspondence, lists and other documents relating to the Finance Department;
  • MasterCard reconciliations and invoice coding;
  • Assist with Finance Department advertising;
  • Filing documents in accordance with the Records Management Policy;
  • Provide support and assistance to the Taxation department, Utilities department, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Disaster Mitigation Team and Front Counter cross coverage as required;
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements for this position are:

  • 2-3 years related experience in an administrative position;
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs;
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and professionalism;
  • Knowledge of office administration procedures;
  • Effective interpersonal and organization skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license;
  • Evidence of successfully passing a police Criminal Record Check.

Salary Range: $44,595 – $61,318 per annum. Mackenzie County offers a Comprehensive Benefit Package.

Mackenzie County is currently inviting applications for the Director of Operations position. The primary location for this position will be in La Crete, however the individual may be required to work in other areas of the municipality as per operational requirements. This is a full-time out of scope position with a 40 hour work week (8 hours per day) Monday to Friday.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring continuity standards for road maintenance and construction;
  • Prepare and monitor departmental and project budgets;
  • Oversee the activities of the operations department (County-wide), including all road, sidewalk and airport maintenance;
  • Develop and recommend short and long term plans for the operations department;
  • Develop collaborative approaches regarding issues and challenges;
  • Prepare presentations for elected officials, staff and stakeholders;
  • Prepare and review committee and council reports, Request for Proposals/Quotes;
  • Prepare contract proposals and tender documents in conjunction with the Director of Finance;
  • Monitors the work and performance of contractors, consultants and department staff;
  • Oversee the progress of assigned projects;
  • Provides mentorship, coaching, offers conflict resolution skills and able to handle difficult or sensitive situations regarding staff, taxpayers, stakeholders and politicians.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements for this position are:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, with a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) designation is preferred;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience with municipal infrastructure design;
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs;
  • Knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act, Municipal Government Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and other relevant legislation;
  • Effective leadership skills and commitment to customer service excellence;
  • Understanding of low German is an asset;
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license;
  • Evidence of successfully passing a police Criminal Record Check.

Salary Range: $120,407.57 – $144,362.70 per annum. Mackenzie County offers a Comprehensive Benefit Package.

Mackenzie County is currently inviting applications for multiple Casual Equipment Operator I positions. The primary location for these positions will be in Fort Vermilion and La Crete, however, the individual may be required to work in other areas of the municipality as per operational requirements. These are unionized positions and the hours of work are on an as needed basis.

Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor for that area, the successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Manual labour (i.e. shoveling snow/dirt);
  • Maintenance and repair of signs, culverts, etc.;
  • Snow removal, manual and equipment;
  • Operate the snow/plow truck or grader as required;
  • The safe operation and minor maintenance of County equipment;
  • Assisting with crack-filling; pavement patching;
  • Some weekend or holiday work required; (Saturday & Sunday)
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements for this position are:

  • A valid class 5 driver’s license; class 1 or 3 an asset;
  • Two to three years’ experience operating equipment (i.e. loader, backhoe, tractor, skid steer, & lawn mower);
  • Moderate physical strength and stamina;
  • Mechanical knowledge of equipment would be an asset;
  • Knowledge of road maintenance;
  • Adequate verbal and written communication skills;
  • Evidence of successfully passing a police Criminal Record Check.

Salary Range: $27.35/hr. – $34.64/hr. As per the Collective Agreement, vacation pay will be calculated based on six percent (6%) of your earnings.

Requirements for this position are:

  • A valid class 5 driver’s license; class 1 or 3 an asset;

  • Knowledge of the Mackenzie County road network;
  • Moderate physical strength and stamina;
  • Knowledge of road maintenance;
  • Adequate verbal and written communication skills;

Salary Range: $30.92/hr. – $38.21/hr. As per the Collective Agreement, vacation pay will be calculated based on six percent (6%) of your earnings.

Mackenzie County is currently inviting applications for a Geographical Information System (GIS) Technician. This position will be located in Mackenzie County’s La Crete office and is a full-time permanent position.

Mackenzie County is an exciting vibrant municipality with exceptional opportunity for future growth and development. Mackenzie County is situated in the northwest part of Alberta and encompasses approximately 12% of Alberta’s land mass.

Working in the Planning & Development department reporting to the Director of Planning and Agriculture, the GIS Technician will provide professional services for the design, development, and maintenance of GIS and mapping applications.

The GIS Technician will be responsible for managing (coordinating the collection, update and maintenance) spatial and non-spatial data/information relevant to particular service areas, provide technical assistance in the activities of demographics, zoning, planning, addressing, etc. The GIS Technician will maintain data and prepare maps using the County’s RoadNet Data.

The GIS Technician will work collaboratively with the County’s Information Technology Specialist and assist in troubleshooting and projects.

Job Requirements
You are a collaborator and work to contribute in a team environment and able to work with minimal supervision. You are an initiator and use your technical knowledge to assist the municipal services departments in advancing through the use of GIS technology. You have proven verbal and written communication skills. You possess strong organizational skills and able to balance multiple tasks and deliver within an acceptable turnaround time.

You have a working knowledge of AutoCad and/or ArcView, Munisight and other GIS platforms and resources. You are a quick learner and promoter of new technologies.

You have a GIS certificate/diploma, or engineering technologist diploma. You have knowledge of civil, architectural or electronic engineering design drawings, GPS surveys, geography, and municipal infrastructure with several years of related experience. Equivalencies will be considered.

Must provide evidence of successfully passing a police Criminal Record Check.

Hours of Work
This is a full-time unionized position with a 40 hour work week (8 hours per day) Monday to Friday.

Salary Range
Mackenzie County offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefit package. This position is a union position with a salary range of $66,893 to $83,637.

Mackenzie County is currently inviting applications for a Utility Officer position. The primary location for this position will be in La Crete, however, the individual may be required to work in other areas of the municipality as per operational requirements. This is a full-time unionized position with a 40 hour work week (8 hours per day) Monday to Friday.

Reporting to the Director of Utilities, the successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Assist with maintenance & operation of water & sewer facilities;
  • Collecting, analysis of samples & daily tests;
  • Manhole maintenance;
  • Assist in compiling & completing reports;
  • Perform connections & disconnections to water services;
  • Equipment maintenance and repairs;
  • Investigate, read & repair water meters on a monthly basis;
  • On-call rotation;
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements for this position are:

  • Completion of Grade 12 Diploma;
  • 2 years’ experience in water and sewer systems;
  • AWWOA Level I water treatment & distribution certificates considered an asset;
  • AWWOA Level I wastewater collection & treatment certificates considered an asset;
  • AWWOA Level II certification considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of the operations & maintenance of water & sewage treatment facilities;
  • Knowledge of water & sewer system regulations;
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision;
  • Good verbal & written communication skills;
  • Effective interpersonal & organizational skills;
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license; class 1 or 3 an asset;
