Waste Transfer Stations

Mackenzie County operates a number of Waste Transfer Stations throughout the municipality for the disposal of solid waste. Mackenzie County reserves the right to control the type and nature of refuse which may be deposited at the transfer station and no refuse may be deposited at the transfer station except in accordance with the Waste Transfer Station Operations Manual. Please note that all tandem or tridem-axle trucks are directed to the Mackenzie Regional Landfill.

Anyone found to be littering waste to be disposed of at the Waste Transfer Station or Landfill shall be subject to a fine of $1,000.00. We ask that you please do your part to keep our communities clean!

Blue Hills Waste Transfer Station

Directions:

  • Thursday – 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Saturday – 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Blumenort Waste Transfer Station

Directions:

  • Highway 697, South of Township Road 1080

Hours of Operation:

  • Tuesday – 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Saturday – 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Buffalo Head Prairie Waste Transfer Station

Directions:

  • Township Road 1044, West of Highway 697, Buffalo Head Prairie

  • Tuesday – 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Thursday – 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday – 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Fort Vermilion Waste Transfer Station

Directions:

  • East of 45 Street, Fort Vermilion

  • Tuesday – 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday – 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

La Crete Waste Transfer Station

Directions:

  • 10005 99 Street, La Crete

  • Monday – 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Thursday – 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Saturday – 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Rocky Lane Waste Transfer Station

Directions:

  • Township Road 1093A, North of Rocky Lane

  • Wednesday – 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Saturday – 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Zama Waste Transfer Station

Directions:

  • Oilmen Road, South of Industrial Drive, Zama City

Hours of Operation:

  • Tuesday – 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Saturday – 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Waste Transfer Station Fees

The following fees are charged at waste transfer stations, effective April 28, 2021. Current fees are listed in the Fee Schedule Bylaw. Users can prepay these fees by purchasing a County “Solid Waste Punch Card” at any of the County offices.

  • Hamlet and Rural Residential Waste (up to three (3) bags): $5.00
  • Hamlet and Rural Residential Waste (up to six (6) bags): $10.00
  • Pickup Truck (partial or full load): $50.00
  • Pickup Truck (with trailer): $200.00
  • Dump Trailers Using 40-Yard Bins (all sizes): $275.00
  • Untarped Loads Penalty: $100.00

  • Commercial Waste
  • Pesticide Containers (Must be triple jet rinsed and punctured.)
  • Demolition/Construction/Renovation Debris (Must be deposited and fit into the 40 cubic yard bin.)
  • Institutional Waste
  • Burnable Material (Not accepted at the Buffalo Head Prairie Waste Transfer Station.)
  • Ashes (Accepted at all transfer stations.)
  • Chaff/Grass Clippings (All forms.)
  • Derelict Auto Bodies (Accepted at Fort Vermilion, Blumenort, Bluehills, Fort Vermilion, Rocky Lane, and Zama.)
  • Miscellaneous Waste
  • Hazardous waste
  • Antifreeze
  • Liquid waste
  • Any sludge
  • Untreated biomedical or pathological waste
  • Radioactive waste
  • Explosives
  • Dead animals
  • Dangerous goods (as identified in CANUTEC Guide), and in accordance with the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act
  • Animal manure
  • Any other waste that may be designated by Mackenzie County or Local Health Authorities
  • Paint
  • Television Sets and Computer Screen Monitors
  • Household Electronics
  • Used Tires (All sizes rubber only. Tires with rims are not accepted.)
  • Scrap Metal (Including white metals: freezers, fridges, ranges, etc.)
  • Oils

Hamlet Residential Waste Collection

A hamlet residential waste collection program is currently in place for the Hamlets of Fort Vermilion and La Crete.

The following fees are charged for Hamlet Residential Waste Collection, effective April 1, 2023. Current fees are listed in the Fee Schedule Bylaw.

  • Monthly Collection Waste: $20.00 per month per residence
  • One-Time Use Refuse Bin Tags: $2.50 per tag

Mackenzie Regional Waste Management Commission (MRWMC)

The Mackenzie Regional Waste Management Commission (MRWMC) was established in 2003. Members include Mackenzie County, the Town of High Level, and the Town of Rainbow Lake. The Commission provides solid waste management services for the Mackenzie Region.
